Susan Henry, Manager – Community Investments
Susan Henry has over 20 years’ experience in the micro-finance arena. She manages the Alterna Savings Community Micro-Finance Program and the Community Loan Funds Partnership Programs. At Alterna Savings she spearheaded the creation of a Networking Café to help members network and expand their business skills.
Speaking regularly on financing for small business to potential entrepreneurs at many GTA and Ottawa based organizations, she addresses over 1000 potential small business owners each year.
Susan is also an acknowledged leader in the field of Community Economic Development in Canada and has advised policymakers and practitioners in the area of Micro Finance. She continues to consult and lend her expertise to organizations starting Community Loan Funds with a focus on small business and social enterprise development. Her most recent project involves working with credit unions across the United States to implement microfinance in their communities.
In her role at Alterna, she is responsible for the strategic direction of the Community Micro-Finance Program and the Community Loan Fund Partnerships. In 2015, she received the Gary Gillam Award for corporate social responsibility for championing Micro Finance in Canada through her role at Alterna Savings.
