Daniel Bida is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) who spent the first five years of his career as a global energy and utilities analyst focused on credit quality and overall sustainability with Dominion Bond Rating Service and MSCI Inc. In 2009, Daniel founded ReGenerate Biogas Inc., a biogas development company focused on building projects that use as much local capital and organic waste as possible in order to maximize the economic and environmental benefits to the host communities. Soon after, ReGenerate launched its first project at the Toronto Zoo, to build North America’s first zoo-based biogas plant, where Daniel is also serving as Executive Director of ZooShare Biogas Cooperative Inc.
Since it’s launch in 2011, Daniel led a team responsible for securing all necessary contracts and permits, raising over $3 million from 500 members, and has started construction May 2016. The plant will recycle manure from the zoo and food waste from Canada’s largest grocery store chain into renewable energy. Daniel graduated from McMaster University with an Honours B. Comm in 2005. In 2015, in recognition of his work with ZooShare and in the biogas sector, Daniel received the McMaster Arch Award given to alumni for their unique and interesting contributions to society, their local community, and to McMaster, and the Possibility Thinker award from Future Possibilities for Kids.
